Stretching is mandatory, not optional.

Assisted Stretching

Stretching is one of many strategies that can improve flexibility and mobility. The body’s muscular and fascial (connective tissue) systems are designed to function with a baseline of normal tension. It is common for tension to increase in the body when we experience periods of mental and physical stress, sleep deficiency, dehydration, poor nutrition, physical deconditioning, decreased daily movement, and normal aging. This results in shortened soft tissues, joint compression and stiff joints that contribute to overall decreased ROM, mobility, and flexibility. Stretching is one of the most effective methods to help decrease those negative factors, resulting in faster, more effective results when combined with a total fitness program.

An evaluation of body posture and movements will be done to indicate areas of decreased flexibility/mobility. This information will help guide how to administer your stretching session. Three different methods of stretching could be used during your session. Static Stretching – holding a gentle stretch for 30 seconds or longer, focusing on breathing and relaxing tissues. Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) – a technique using contract-relax-contract method to achieve a deeper range of motion. Perpetual Movement – a technique that uses wave-like movements to involve more fibers and tissues in the stretch.
